いま出版社は、「本が売れなくなった」と大騒ぎをしています。図書館に配本するのを規制しようとか、ネット上に流出するのを防ごうとか、新古書店を敵視したりしていますが、根本的に出版メディアの側に欠如しているのは、読み手に対するリスペクトだと思います。 　著作権に対する出版社の発想は、無償の読者を読者としてカウントしていません。それどころか、「盗人」として捉えてしまっている。僕に言わせれば、「図書館で本を読まれたら、おカネが入らないので大損だ。 　だから、図書館にはなるべく本を配るべきじゃない」と考える人には、物書きの資格はありません。図書館は出版文化の支え手です。それを敵視するなんて言語道断です。 　物書きや出版社にとってまずは高いリテラシーを持った読者層を、いかに形成するかがすべてのスタートなんです。 　どんな人もまず無償の読者として出発し、長い時間、場合によっては20年以上をかけて有償の読者に変化します。カネを払わずに本を読み続ける行為を通してリテラシーを形成し、その後にはじめてカネを出して本を買うという行為が始まるわけです。 　出版メディアは、そのプロセスにこそ投資をしなくてはいけません。いまの日本の出版危機というのは、その読者層の形成に対して、十分に配慮してこなかった結果なのではないでしょうか。
